Simply slowing down and becoming aware of your lifestyle, the environment in which you live and what you do to take time out of your routine will go a long way  to soothing your soul.  Creating an awareness of how you can develop new ways to nurture yourself is important for both mental and physical health.

  1. Declutter - go through your wardrobe, linen cupboard, kitchen drawers, bathroom cupboards, and even your fridge, remove things you no longer use or need.

  2. Take a morning walk, rise earlier than usual and experience the freshness of the air at the beginning of your day.

  3. Eat mindfully, without distractions, and savour the flavours, textures and tastes.  Listen to your body and notice how foods affect you.

  4. Spend time away from electronic devices, this includes social media.  Stop comparing your own life with others, focus on other things that bring you joy.

  5. Get out into the park or garden, and connect with the earth, it can be calming, grounding and essential for mental and physical wellbeing.

  6. Let go of old emotions, experience the feelings and move forward in a more positive direction.

  7. Be gentle with yourself, start your day with open eyes and heart, slowly breathe, bring in awareness, and have an intention for the day ahead that brings you joy.

  8. Place pen to paper, and become more creative with your thoughts and emotions.  Simply write a letter to yourself, don’t block anything out, embody it!  A simple way to begin to journal.

  9. Find a ray of sunshine, take a good book, put your phone on silent and allow yourself to absorb the rays of sunshine, the fresh air and uninterrupted time to yourself.

  10. Do an hour of something that completely nourishes you, be completely in the moment.

Guiding yourself to a better life and a better you, doesn’t mean doing all 10 suggestions at once, you can select what suits you best.  Just select one, try it, and if it works for you, keep doing it.  You can then add to it and enjoy the things that nourish you mentally and physically.
