How Can Corrective Meridian Yoga Help You in Autumn?

Welcome to Autumn, the time of year when we start to turn inward and the energy starts to shift downward and contract. So what does this mean for you, and how can you use the change of season to benefit your mind and body?

Metal Element -Playing a role in the organs of the Lung and Large Intestine.

In Chinese medicine, autumn is the time of year related to the metal element. It focuses on expansion and contraction, as reflected in our seasonal organs, lungs, and large intestine. It is time to start conserving your energy and building more power and strength within ourselves. It is time to become more grounded, connected, and steady within ourselves.

Corrective Meridian Yoga

Using corrective meridian yoga, we focus on specific areas surrounding these organs, such as the waist & back for the large intestines and the chest and shoulder area for the lungs.

Key movements for these areas include expansive and contractive movements to stimulate the correct energetic function and strengthen and stimulate organs. Breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, and massage may also be incorporated into classes. Physically, we want to create greater strength from the core and waist, which means tighter tummies and stronger backs. For the upper body, we want to create lightness and ease in the chest and shoulders, which helps with neck and shoulder tension and freedom of movement.

Autumn Is About Pairing Back and Letting Go

Mentally and emotionally, autumn is the season of  pairing back and letting go. It is the season to eliminate ideas/patterns/habits that are no longer beneficial. If you are mentally stuck, autumn is  a great time of year to start a yoga practice. This practice will help to lighten the mind and help you to move forward with clarity.
