Nourishing Black Sesame Latte

Black Sesame as a Winter Tonic

A nourishing daily ritual for vitality, calm, and long-term wellbeing

At Beattie Street Health Studio, we believe in simple, medicinal tonics that support the body’s deeper reserves—especially during the colder months when the body needs deeper nourishment. One of our most-loved rituals is the Black Sesame Latte—a warm, mineral-rich drink rooted in the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Black sesame (Hei Zhi Ma) is traditionally used as a winter tonic to nourish the Kidneys, support Blood and Essence (Jing), and moisten internal dryness. It’s especially beneficial during times of depletion, hormonal transition, or emotional fatigue.

This is a go-to for Melinda Webb, who reaches for this latte in the afternoons instead of coffee. It’s her daily ritual for grounding, nourishing, and gently replenishing the body—a long-term investment in calm, clarity, and energy.

Why We Use It in Clinic

Black sesame is traditionally used to:

  • Nourish Blood and Jing (Essence) – supporting fertility, energy, and graceful ageing

  • Moisten dryness – ideal for skin, bowels, and dry winter conditions

  • Replenish minerals – rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, and healthy fats

  • Calm the nervous system – grounding for overstimulation, worry, and burnout

We recommend this latte as a gentle alternative to caffeine, especially in the winter season when the body benefits from warmth, nourishment, and stillness.
