You Cannot Change What You Cannot See

Awareness Precedes Choice

Ever find yourself repeating habits that don’t serve you?
Saying yes when you really mean no? Or no to the things you deeply want to say yes to?

You're not alone.
And it all comes back to awareness.

So, what is awareness?
It’s presence.
It’s the capacity to feel what’s really happening in the fabric of your whole being: your body, emotions, mind, and energy, in real time. Awareness is being informed, conscious, and connected to what’s here, right now.

"Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed."
- Thich Nhat Hanh

When we try to make choices without awareness, without information, understanding, or presence, it’s like trying to steer a ship in the dark with no compass.

And often, we’re just operating from the history of who we’ve chosen to be in the past. On autopilot.

You cannot change what you cannot see or feel.
Most of us default to what we know, what’s familiar — even if it’s not serving us. Sometimes we’re brave in one area of life, and that courage masks the places where we’re avoiding real change.

Our habits: energetic, emotional, mental, physical - have been shaped over time by our environments, upbringing, culture, stresses, trauma, and experiences. Many of them run beneath the surface, unnoticed, until we decide we want something different or more. That’s when the mirror turns inward. And that kind of honesty can be uncomfortable.

We meet parts of ourselves that feel raw: layers of shame, fear, guilt, self-doubt. Sometimes, it's easier to numb out, push it aside, and wait for a “better time.” And growth happens when we stay with ourselves, lovingly, through discomfort.

Mistakes? They’re not failures. They’re growth moments.
Had you known more, had you had awareness, you might have chosen differently. That’s not shameful - that’s human.
Had you known how to stay aware, present, and in the discomfort, you would have met yourself and responded differently.

Let’s drop the idea of good vs bad, right vs wrong.
Instead, ask: Is this effective or ineffective for me or the circumstance right now?
Will my next choice empower or disempower me or the situation?

Because what’s effective today might not be tomorrow. And that’s okay.
Did you know that over 70% of our subconscious programming from childhood leans toward disempowerment?
It’s no wonder change can feel hard. Its time we all reparent ourselves so our magnetism and magnificence get more space to thrive.

But here’s the truth:
To make conscious, empowered choices, you need to strengthen your awareness, your ability to stay present in real time, in the now moment.
Not from judgment - from compassion.
Not from perfection - from presence.

5 Simple Ways to Turn Up Your Awareness

1. Breathe
Come back to your body. Breathe in and out slowly through your nose, longer than usual. Let the breath be soft and steady, especially when you feel stressed or reactive. Let your breath guide you into presence before making a choice.

2. Feel what you feel
Let your emotions rise without needing to fix, escape, or judge them. Accept, allow and process. Stay present with your breath. Clarity comes after you allow space for the messiness.

3. Ask the right question
From this place of presence, ask:
What is the most aligned choice I can make right now?
Let your answer come from honesty, not fear or habit.

4. Repeat
Like any muscle, awareness strengthens over time. Keep practicing.
You’ll get better at catching old patterns before they lead you down the same road.

5. Love yourself through it
This isn’t about getting it “right.”
It’s about showing up for yourself, again and again.

You might also need new tools to support your growth.
Awareness opens the door, skill-building helps you walk through it.
Practice turns insight into embodiment.

The more present you become, the more you can change.
Old patterns can be reprogrammed and re-patterned.
Your intuition will sharpen.
And you’ll slowly, steadily become a more vital, empowered version of yourself.

So let me ask you:
✨ What’s one change you’re ready for?
✨ What’s a habit you’re done carrying?

Did this resonate with you in any way? If so, chances are someone close to you could benefit from this kind of supportive encouragement too. Don’t hesitate to share it.

If there’s a topic you’d love me to explore, whether through writing, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.

Let’s grow, evolve and rise together.
